A rare opportunity to climb the world's seventh highest mountain
Introduction
At 8,167m, Dhaulagiri – ‘The White Mountain’ - is the seventh highest mountain on the planet, first climbed by legendary Austrian mountaineer, Kurt Diemberger and an Austrian/Swiss team, in the pre-monsoon season of 1960. The spring 2014 expedition will attempt the North East Ridge, the line of the first ascent. It is an extremely rare opportunity to join an organised expedition to one of the least frequently climbed of the 8,000m peaks.Building on the success of our 2011 Makalu expedition, led by Robert Anderson, the Dhaulagiri expedition will also be led by Robert, one of our most experienced leaders. Places are available for experienced mountaineers with previous 8,000m climbing experience (exceptionally you could join this team if you have a strong mountaineering CV at lower altitudes).
Why join us on Dhaulagiri in 2014?
- This is a rare opportunity to join a professionally led and well supported expedition to the mountain
- Expedition leader, Robert Mads Anderson has led Jagged Globe teams to the summits of Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu and Shishapangma
- You will have a high level of support from our core team of Sherpas (for more information, see our detailed itinerary)
- We will supply 4 bottles of oxygen per team member + use of Summit Oxygen mask
- Mountain Hardwear and Terra Nova tents on the mountain
- Well-stocked base camp
- Accompanying trek for friends and family + optional ascent of Dhampus Peak 6,060m (Sun 6 - Sat 26 Apr '14)

Camp 2 (6,400m) is on a small, flat area below an ice cliff on the eastern aspect of the NE Spur itself. The route above Camp 2 is steep for 500 metres to reach Camp 3, which is located on a rocky ledge at 7,400m. Depending on the conditions, either the NE Ridge itself, or moderate snow slopes to the right of the ridge are followed to a steep couloir that leads to the summit. |

PLEASE NOTE: The above itinerary is not a fixed programme but is intended to give an indication of the likely events during the expedition. Please note that because of the nature of mountaineering on 8,000m peaks, it will be necessary to have a flexible plan in order to take the best advantage of situations as they present themselves. Any changes to the itinerary will be made with a view to maximising the benefit to the team members and of ensuring their eventual success on the mountain.
